Every other month I go into the classrooms and do a classroom presentation. This month, we talked about what to do when someone is mean or a bully. I often have kids come into my office who are worried or sad about someone who was mean to them, so I wanted to give the Sunrise students some tools to handle it. Here is an overview of what we learned so you can help emphasize these tools at home: We talked about the difference between mean and bullying. If something like teasing, name calling, punching, etc. happens once, it’s mean. If it happens over and over by the same kid to the same kid, then it’s bullying. There are 4 types of bullying:

You can practice these tools with your children, so they will know how to handle difficult situations when people are mean. As children learn to use these tools, we can decrease bullying and meanness at our school and increase kindness. Here are a few resources to teach children more about kindness:

I hope we can all be “buddies” to one another and make the school a better place!
