Here are some simple ideas to help your children include others and make new friends:
1.Learn something new about a different country 2.Learn how to say "hello" in a different language 3. Read a book by someone who looks different than you 4. Ask a friend to teach you something that they like to do 5. Stand up for someone who is being gossiped about or picked on 6. Learn something new about someone in your class 7. Try a new food 8. Ask someone new to spend time with you 9. Focus on the good about others 10. Give a compliment to someone who is different than you 11. Teach someone about something you like to do 12. Say "hello" to someone that you've never met before 13. Ask someone that you don't normally talk to how their day has been 14. Show your child with your example what it means to love and respect others 15. Teach your child coping skills, so they can better handle stressful situations with friends 16. Help your child empathize with others (ex: "What do you think they are feeling right now?," "How would you feel if that happened to you?" 17. Practice conversation skills at dinner, playing games together, etc. 18. Encourage activities that promote cooperation, not competition 19. Teach your children how to compromise 20. Teach your children how to apologize and make their mistakes with others right, and encourage your child to be forgiving and understanding of others' mistakes 21. Role play with each other asking get-to-know-you questions and giving compliments to others 22. Provide a safe and fun environment for play dates at your house 23. Remember every child is different 24. Help your child feel prepared with different ideas of what they can do at recess, what they can talk about, etc. Give ideas, but let your child choose and control the situation. 25. Remember it's okay if everyone isn't your best friend. Friends come and go and there are different levels of closeness.
